My MT frequently crashes without notice!!!

Hi,
I use MT for a year. I update it everytime when there is a new version but even i use v2.3.6 it STILL CRASHES WITHOUT ANY NOTICE!

For last 4 months I work on completely new system - moved from XP to Win7 64-bit, new notebook, OS, new drivers... everything is different but MT still crashes without notice!
I constantly loose a lot of logging because i don't know MT is not runing!
Now I have to buy new licence to get new version. But the problem is there for a year! I can't rely on MT to track my activity if you don't fix the problem urgently! I can't wait anymore and will switch to another software if you don't look at this problem. I'm guessing it's related to hibernation/standby and auto changes of wireless networks after wake-up (because I use my notebook at the coffee, then standby and go home, then wake it up and Windows automatically change the wireless connection) or maybe somehting related to free RAM/SWAP (usually i have very little free RAM because I run a lot applications simultaneously)

Please fix this annoying problem! I love ManicTime and I want to continue using it!

I honestly thought we fixed it. Lets try to figure it out.

1. Check Event viewer at the time of the crash, anything there?
2. Do you get a Send error report to MS when it crashes? If you do, please send it and send me the time at which you sent it. We can get to those errors but I need the time so I know which is yours.
3. I included a file. Run EnableLocalDumps.reg. This setting should tell windows to make a minidump next time an app crashes. Minidumps will be in folder c:\Users\&lt;username&gt;\AppData\Local\CrashDumps\. Then please send me the dump file. It might be large so I hope we can exchange through Dropbox or something similar.

Also, please update MT to the latest version. If you have license for v2.3, then you can install any 2.3.x version.

1. absolutely no errors or warning in Event viewer around the time of the crash
2. no, i didn't get any errors! that's the big problem. Sometimes i get errors when it crashes and i can restart MT but sometimes MT just disappears and i notice that hours or even days after the crash! So every time i loose a lot of time tracking data and i'm not happy. I don't have such problems with any other application (never).
3. I've enabled local dumps. What data will they contain? I want to help with debugging but I don't want to share any personal data.

About the upgrade - you're right, I can run latest version with my license. Last time i've downloaded .zip instead of USB version and it prompt me for license key so i thought my license has ended. Now i'm running latest version.

3. I think it should mostly be code. Even if it contains memory, there is not much in there, I think tracker holds on to about a minute worth of tracking before it is written to the database.

When it crashes, check that folder for a crash dump and copy it somewhere else. I think it will contain only up to 10 crash reports, then it starts to overwrite them.

If we can't get to the crash dump, or if we can't figure it out, I guess the only thing that is left is to do an MTWatcher app, which will only look for the tracker and restart it when it crashes. We will add it in the next version, I'll let you know when we have a beta version so you can test it.

Please let me know if you get a minidump next time it crashes.

We created a version with a watcher. Could you please try it out, see if it helps?

Once you run it, there should be an additional process ManicTimeProcessMonitor. It will check the tracker and restart it if it crashes.

I guess it's something related to free memory or HDD usage because I run a lot applications and constantly have little free RAM, that leads to intensive HDD read/write from SWAP file and a lot of "busy/freeze state" when I have to wait some seconds. I've added 4GB RAM (now I have 8GB total) before 2 days and MT runs without crashes till now. I'll stay with current version to see if it will crash. If not - we will be sure that it's related to free RAM or something else related to available resources. I'll tell you what's happening in a few days.

The versions are virtually identical, so you can run the extra process one. The process has its own log so we will know if it crashed or not, the difference will only be the auto start after the crash.
