Apparently Manictime doesn't let you know in any way if your 1 year of updates has expired. I even clicked on the version in the corner to check for updates and instead of telling me I needed to renew it just says no updates available.

So I request license expiration notification when looking for updates.

I wrote a bit about how put new versions on the site here
http://www.manictime.com...how-to-upgrade-manictime

We didn't yet publish the new v2.3 as auto update. When we will, it will let you know.

You did bring up a problem though, if you upgrade manually, then you really don't know until you install it.

I'll mention this in the help.

I must totally agree. Automatic update does not notify you about new version, which is not covered by your current license. So only way how to stay informed about new major versions is to manually check ManicTime website.

Automatic update does notify you about the license. If your license expired you will see the warning when you upgrade with auto update.

It does not however warn you if you update it via a site. As I mentioned before, we don't release it as an auto update until we are certain we fixed as many bugs as we possibly can, so it can happen that there is a new version on the site for two or more weeks, and it still doesn't notify older users. In this case users can download the setup themselves, but it will not notify them until they install and run it.

When 2.3.3.2 was officially released on website, automatic update did not notified me about it, so I thought, that 2.3.0.0 is there suspiciously long time. Then I go to website just for make sure and found, that there is newer version already.
And that is the problem - you must check for new major versions manually.

I guess it depends on how fast you want it. Currently every past version should notify you about the latest one.
Once we find some time we will set up a mailing list and you can be notified as soon as we put a new version on the site.

It means automatic update in versions 2.3.4.0+ will notify you about latest major version, even if your license does not cover it?

Very good! This is exactly what I missed in previous versions.
