So, I'm a personal user who's in love with ManicTime. I've just gotten a new laptop, and I'm going to be splitting my time between that and my desktop. I'm wondering if there's a simple way to have one unified timeline shared between the two.
I've done a bit of searching, at it looks like a ManicTime server might be able to do this, but before I figure out how to set one up, I have some brief questions --
1) Does the server actually produce one timeline, visible on either machine? Are times labled with the machine of origin? 2) Do I have to have a machine hosting the server that's on 24/7? 3) Can the server handle both machines being online simultaneously? 4) Is the synchronization automatic?
Many thanks!

Server will not help you to create one timeline. It is just a central point to where the data from both machines is sent. You can then load the timelines from first machine on the second one. 1. No. Yes, times are from the originating machine. 2. No, data will be sent when the server comes online 3. Yes 4. Yes Use this version if you will set up the server www.manictime.com/setup/...imeServerWithSymbols.zipIt has some statistics, once the data is send to it, visit it with a browser.

Ah! Thanks for the quick response. So, once I load the timelines from the first machine onto the other, it will merge them into one contiguous timeline?
Out of curiosity, are there any plans to make two-machine syncing automatic/sans servers?

No merging, timelines will be seperate. For example one Computer usage timeline from machine A and one from machine B.
We have no plans on working on merging without the server. If you don't use machines at the same time you can use the portable version, or just send the database back and forth and the timelines would be the same.

Is there a way to manually merge all the timelines from all machines so that you can view all of the data on one machine in the Day view? I have the server setup and have 4 workstations that I am working on simultaneously on separate tasks. I want to be able to review all time spent between all four machines even if the times overlap. I don't have a problem merging the data manually or maybe it could be scripted? Is this ManicTimeServerWithSymbols.zip different from the one I downloaded from your website and installed on my server? What are the differences?

The latest one is here http://www.manictime.com...imeServerWithSymbols.zipI usually post the symbols one for testing, it just gives us better error messages if there is an error. Depends on what you want to see. If server statistics is ok, I mean it has the data you want, then just create a Team and add all users to it. (if all computers are from the same user you don't need to do this, just click on the user) All data on the server will be summed or averaged for all computers. Does this make sense? Which data do you want to see for all machines?

Sorry but I not sure I understand. I am a single user and work on multiple machines. I have manictime loaded on all the machine I work on and they are all syncing to the my server. When I go to the server http interface, I see my timelines ( TimeLine), but what I want to do is to merge all the timelines from all machines into one and then view them in the manictime client interface so I can apply filters and be able to granularly see what I have done for the day ( DayView). Thanks

Got it. Then the only thing you can do is load all the timelines in one client. So Timeline editor -> Add timelines and add all the timelines you are interested in...
Could you tell me a bit more about how you would use this, I mean types of things you want to do?

Did you see the links I had on my post #8? (TimeLine) and (DayView) that should show you what I setup in the timeline editor on the server, and what I am trying to do w/ manictime workstation software.
