Hi,

I've added an outlook timeline in ManicTime 2.5.4 and selected a calendar from my Outlook 2007. However, ManicTime does not display any events. I tried to refresh the timeline and restarted both outlook and ManicTime. Taking a quick look at the logs I do not see any related entries.
Any ideas how I can get this to work? System is Win7 x64. It's a non english version of Outlook 2007 SP3. Thanks.

While tying to work around the issue I noticed that the Outlook.com connector seems to use ics. I could use this to import my Outlook events as they actually come from a groupware server. However, this server requires authentication. Can ManicTime handle authentication with ics? I haven't found anything about this in the help files or the forums. If there is a way to specify a username and password, please let me know.

Try Office 365, does that one work with exchange?

Thanks for the idea. It might work, but ManicTime doesn't let me enter an URL. I haven't seen any entries in the config files either, so I'm not sure how to connect to another server.

Sorry about that, you're right :)

I'll try to make a build tomorrow and we can try it, it would be interesting to know if this works...

Could you try this.
Right click MT icon, choose Exit. Extract and overwrite the attached file (you need to have the latest version, 2.5.4

Then please try Outlook one more time, I added some logging.
Then try the Office 365, for URL try
http[s]://your server/EWS/Exchange.asmx

Then please send me log files, Tools, Adv, Pack log files.

Hi,

I've tried the new .dll and tested the Office 365 connector with our groupware server.

The good news is that authentication works.
Unfortunately there seems to be a problem decoding the response from the server. I've attached the error log from ManicTime as well as the (shortened) response from the server that I reveived after saving the file to disk using a browser.

I tried to use icalendar as the server isn't an exchange server and therefore doesn't offer an /EWS/Exchange.asmx path.

I also tried the outlook import and packaged the logs as you suggested.

Could you repeat it one more time and send me log files.

Also, do you have more than one calendar in Outlook? Can you make a sample appointment in the default one if you are not using it. I think it runs through normally, it just doesn't find anything...

Hi,
thanks for the update. I've tried the new version and have attached the logs.

The "default" and only calendar is the calendar from the groupware server which is connected via a MAPI connector. I've created another one using a local pst file and added it to the timeline as well.
Both are empty in ManicTime while in Outlook both have events specified for today. The local one throws an error (I've send the report), but the MAPI calendar still silently fails to display any events.

ManicTime_Logs_2014-05-20.zip (9kb) downloaded 1 time(s).

I'll install office 2007 and try it out. I'll let you know what I find.

Hi,

thank you for trying to work this out.

Another option would be to use a more general ICS connector. If I'm correct, ManicTime currently uses ICS to import events from outlook.com. If you could combine this parser with the authentication method used for the Office365 connector, I should be able to fetch the events directly from the groupware server.

Hi,

I don't want to bother you, but do you have any news about this issue?

We tried it on Outlook 2007 and it worked.

I'd love to help but I don't know how. Would you maybe be able to give me some test account on your server?

Hi,
thanks for your efforts.
Unfortunately I think a test account would be difficult to organize as this is the central groupware server of our university.
However, I have attached the MAPI connector so you could try to test it in offline mode.

On the other hand, having a direct connection with the groupware server would be a more elegant solution (I usually use Thunderbird, so Outlook would be running solely for the ManicTime integration).
If you could provide a more generic ics interface to manictime (either using the groupware server in combination with user authentication or by choosing a local file that I could update "manually" with a small script), I wouldn't have to rely on Outlook.

Hi,

I just created a workaround to retrieve data from the groupware server. I used an ical library (http://sourceforge.net/projects/dday-ical/) in combination with a small local server to translate the ical format into ManicTime's xml format.
I can really recommend this library (if the licensing conditions are acceptable), because retrieving the data from the server (including authentication) was just one line of code.

Even though this works for me at the moment I still hope that ManicTime will have custom ical sources as time-lines in the future. My current workaround is a bit slower when switching to another day than I would expect from a built in solution. Additionally, having a little server running just for format conversion seems like overkill.
